Bringing the concept of a digital physiotherapy session to life through rapid prototyping.

To demonstrate their vision to potential investors, the founder of NYAP needed a designer to visualize their ideas. I delivered a prototype focusing on the 'physiotherapy session' experience.

The apps goal is to empower patients to manage their physio recovery independently while still feeling connected to Not Your Avarge Physio's (NYAP's) expert care.

1
Mapping assumptions + prioritizing them based on UX criteria
2
Preparing Hypothesis and define experiment metrics
3
Conduct qualitative Research to validate user needs
4
Craft insights, define principles and next steps

vizuals of some components used

I built design components in Figma through quick iterations - while maintaining a new consistent identity

At this early stage, it was crucial to focus solely on the essential components, while still implementing a design token system and work with variables and properties.

I performed a basic accessibility check using Figma plugins. Touch targets were functional, but one button required improved contrast.

Outcome

Screens from the prototype of the user journey of starting & completing one exercise in their first session.

Brief Details

Problem

Physiotherapy patients often struggle to adhere to prescribed exercises when not in a clinical setting.
Barriers include fluctuating motivation, fear of incorrect form, and lack of guidance. This can lead to stagnation or worsening of symptoms.

Business Objective

This case is working around the first business goal.
1. Adoption of the app by existing customers (to free physios’ time with 1st time appointments)

People who favor personalized services and like to explore their physical and mental potential through exercise, while also enjoying managing their recovery independently.

My approach

I studied detailed user profiles (personas) provided by the client to understand their needs, challenges, and goals.

I also had the privilege of discussing the experiences of two individuals who recently went through the process of recovering from injuries using exercise prescriptions from a physiotherapist.

Mapping the Current Experience

I created a visual map ("As-Is" journey) outlining the steps a patient typically takes during a physio session, highlighting areas for improvement.

Designing the Ideal Experience

Crafted a User Journey Map ("To Be" journey) illustrating how the app could translate to a remote session experience, along with a Flow Chart visualizing the sequence of actions the user would take.

By creating this detailed UX flow chart, I was able to visualize and refine the user journey, ensuring that each step in the "starting and completing a session" stage is optimized for a positive and effective user experience.

This systematic approach not only enhances usability but also supports the app's goal of facilitating successful physiotherapy sessions remotely.
